Tendulkar brilliance lifts Mumbai to top of IPL Sachin Tendulkar lifted the Mumbai Indians to the top of the Indian Premier League with a brilliant innings in a five-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings.

The Indian great hammered 72 off 52 balls to help Mumbai chase down Chennai's competitive 2-180 with an over to spare.

Tendulkar combined with Shikhar Dhawan (56 from 34) for a 92-run opening partnership to put Mumbai on track for success at the Brabourne Stadium.

By the time the little master was caught in the 19th over the job was done, with Dwayne Bravo (14 not out) completing the formalities with a six to win the match.

Earlier, Mathew Hayden had got Chennai off to a rapid start with a quick-fire 20 from 12 balls before he was trapped lbw by Harbhajan Singh.

Suresh Raina (83 from 52) and S Badrinath (55 from 45) took things from there, taking the Super Kings to a formidable total. Mumbai's victory helped the hosts steam past Royal Challengers Bangalore and take top spot in the league with a game in hand. Bangalore earlier suffered a 17-run defeat at home by the Delhi Daredevils.

Electric Australian batsman David Warner got things going for the visitors, smacking 33 from 14 balls in his side's 4-183. The Challengers could only manage 9-166 in reply, with all-rounder Andrew McDonald playing his part in restricting the total with figures of 2-42.
